Inna Gorshtein took us on a virtual, historical tour of Petr Ginz’s family and his childhood in Prague in the late 1930s, and his life and fate in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. We spoke about why his work differs from other camp artists, and the newspaper that he published with other prisoners. Inna also showed us photos from Petr's and his sister Jevea’s diaries, who dedicated her life after World War II to researching and sharing Petr Ginz’s story. Today Javea is over 90 years old, lives in Israel and continues to draw and exhibit in Israel and the Czech Republic.
It was very moving for me to get acquainted with the life of artist Petr Ginz on the eve of Yom HaShoa. Many thanks for the professionalism of the lecturer and the Russian translations of the poems and diaries, which helped us immerse ourselves in his world and better understand the artist's work. This left me with hope that the work of Petr Ginz will be preserved in history.
