THE CRUSADERS’ MENU IN HOLY LAND

18.05.2021

Sergey Polyachouk began his lecture with an historical overview of the Crusader times, in the Holy land and in Europe. Then he gave us detailed information about knightly orders that appeared in Jerusalem) so that we could understand their way of life more clearly. And after that we moved to their special diet. We discussed why monks carried their own dishes and didn't use forks. We learned why we drink water with lemon and aloe nowadays in our country and how nuts, humus and falafel became favorite fare of the Crusaders, thanks to the locals. And we finished with the plant that changed all of European culture - sugarcane.

What an interesting topic to discuss here in Israel, where food is the national sport!!! I've learned many interesting things today that I really did not know. Thank you so much for this lecture. I will definitely share my new knowledge with my friends!
