EXCURSION TO TEL AVIV CENTRAL BUS STATION

29.07.2021

Guide Max Izikson took us around the new central bus station of Tel aviv, “Tahana Merkazit.” The area, once named Neve Shaanan, was an exemplary Jewish settlement of peasants, artisans and teachers which evolved into the city of Tel Aviv. But then, something went wrong and today it is inhabited mostly by poor people, foreign workers, refugees, people without a specific residence and occupation. The walls are painted with graffiti, and Central bus station itself hides hundreds of secrets.

Max took us throught the nooks and crannies of this area, the illegal businesses, and criminal arrests which occur regularly and how social services are trying to solve the problems of the district.

We toured old synagogues in the area and observed the architectural frenzy of the new Central bus station, including a closed cinema theater, a market of Philippine cuisine , a bomb shelter for 16 thousand people, a unique old library with Yiddish books. We also spoke for a few minutes with a foreign refugee.
