ART - BEIT MIDRASH WITH EVGENY SIRUK AND ASIA FIX
July 26th, 2021 - Tel Aviv and Central Region

Asya Fix, an Israeli guide and Jewish educator, and Hebrew teacher and educator Evgeny Siruk began by discussing the Talmud and what makes Beit Midrash learning unique.

In groups of 5-6 people, the participants studied biblical texts and artworks and discussed the relevance of Biblical stories in Jewish society during the 20th century."

The subjects included "The Binding of Isaac,” "Jacob’s Dream", " The Tablets of the Covenant" and "the Prophecy of Isaiah." Three paintings by Israeli artists such as Menashe Kadishman, Moshe Kastel, Naftali Bezem, Ephraim Lilien, Mordechai Ardon and others were selected for each theme. Each group spent 20 minutes working on each topic, and doing various creative tasks. At the end of the session, the participants gathered and discussed the insights and understandings that emerged during their learning together and the artworks that they will remember the most.

I really liked this meeting! I never worked with texts from the Torah before, much less thought about their meaning in Israeli art. Now I hope that Argaman will organize a lecture for people like me who are still new to the history of Israeli art.

“IVRIT-RUSIT” CLOTH ART WORKSHOP
July 12th, 2021 - Tel Aviv and Central Region

Maria Dobrovolskaya, a professional artist and educator, began this workshop by asking everyone to share memories of how we arrived in Israel. What Hebrew words we learned first, what funny stories happened to us because we did not know the language.

After that, we talked about how language reveals a lot about local culture and society. Hebrew words such as "lehitahev" and "tzedaka", with their different root meanings in English and Russian. Then Maria taught us different drawing techniques utilizing text as part of a design idea. We selected the texts and with the help of Maria, transferred it to the clothes.

It was a very warm and cozy evening. We laughed a lot and remembered the first year of our repatriation. Then I fulfilled my dream and transferred a favorite phrase from Tehilim onto aT-shirt.

It's so great when you not only talk, but also do something and enjoy the results for a long time afterwards.
