WALK AROUND JEWISH KRAKOW: THE CITY THAT NO LONGER EXISTS
29.06.2021
Together with Vlad we walked around Jewish Krakow, where before WWI, one fourth of the population were Jews. He explained how to identify Jewish houses by the place for mezuzah on the doorpost. We travelled virtually from the 13th century Old Synagogue in the Kazimezh Quarter to the New Synagogue Rama and the Jewish cemetery. Vlad accompanied the tour with different stories from his travels in Krakow, which included many interesting real life tales.
It was very unusual to travel around a city that doesn't exist anymore - like time travelling. You see things that are no longer there or look different today. Krakow is one of my favorite cities, and thanks to Vlad and Shishi Shabbat, I now know more about its Jewish history.
