ARGAMAN JEWISH CULTURAL PROJECT – ISRAELI ART, WITH MARIA MALAKH
30.09.2021
We launched our Autumn semester with an overview of the history of Israeli Art, by art guide and educator Maria Malakh. She discussed the founding of the Betzalel Academy and the movement in Israeli art from Zionism and Biblical themes to abstract and readymade. We spoked about the influence of earlier Jewish artists and European art on Israeli art, and why Picasso is the most beloved European artist in Israel. We finished with observations about Israeli art galleries and exhibitions, including “Fresh Paint” which we will attend next month.
It was wonderful. I needed a lecture like this help understand what Israeli art is all about. Now I am ready to learn more about Jewish and Israeli culture and history.
