Valentina Litinetskaya started our lecture with the question "When did Jews appear in Sardinia". The truth is that we don't know. The historical archive of this island are in the little-known Sardinian language, but there were Sardinians on the shores of Canaan, including Akko, in the 14th century. According to the archaeological findings, the ancient Canaanite commander Sisra was from Sardinia. The earliest mention of Sardinia is year 19 AD when 4000 Jews were sent there from Rome. Valya shared other proofs of the Jewish community in Sardinia.
Thanks for this lecture! I never thought that we have a Jewish diaspora in Sardinia. I really enjoy hearing about uncommon places in the world that have connections with us and their own Jewish communities.
