EMERGENCY UKRAINIAN/RUSSIAN OLIM ABSORPTION OPERATION
30.04.2022
Close to 28,000 Russian-speaking Olim have arrived in Israel, without Hebrew and many even without English, and are in great need of assistance. Our Russian-speaking volunteers continue to provide daily assistance to Olim in government offices, filling out official documents, settling status issues, organizing and procuring necessities from warehouses of donated items, helping with bank, school, and medical needs, and accompanying Olim during medical intervention. Our volunteers helped search for apartments and jobs, providing legal advice on rental and employment contracts, facilitating professional psychological counseling, and arranging Shabbat and holiday hospitality, and so much more. We led a free tour of Jerusalem with a volunteer guide. We launched our first support group for Olim, led by a psychologist Sonya, who specializes in helping families. Our volunteers participated in Yom Hashoah and Yom HaZikaron ceremonies with the new Olim. We refer new Olim to our Israel Jobs listings on Telegram, used by over 2800 Olim, and our Olim.live platform is helping match Olim directly with our volunteers.
– Rita Agapova, Olim Volunteer Coordinator, Jerusalem
Natalya a PhD mathematician says that this is the third war she had to flee from. She was 2 years old during the Second World War, when her parents fled Ukraine. In 2014, she had to flee again, from Donetsk to Kharkov. And now, as a pensioner, she fled from Kharkov to Israel, with her son – hopefully for the last time.
