HOLOCAUST AND JEWISH HEROISM REMEMBRANCE DAY

27.04.2022

On this special day, we honored the memory of six million Jews who died at the hands of the Nazis and their henchmen and recalled the heroism of our people. Together with veterans who survived the Ghetto, we lit memorial candles and talked about the importance of this day and the events that preceded it. We finished by singing Hatikva, young and old together, which was very moving.

We were honored to meet 88 years old ghetto veterans Faina and Sasha Ostanovsky. We lit candles, read the memorial prayer, and listened to veterans' story about their lives as eight year olds during the War, their personal Holocaust story and how they survived. About the difficulties and joys, how they found each other, built their family and their journey in Israel. Thanks to Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli for giving us this opportunity. Never again!

Why do we mark the anniversaries of terrible days in history? As a world community, as people, and individuals - So it will never happen again. To remember those who died and prevent the value of their lives from being forgotten. To honor those who survived, thank them for their courage, and pray for them.

Thank you for the opportunity to listen to Emmanuel's story and to have a chance to discuss it with like-minded people.
