MEETING WITH FILM DIRECTOR ROMAN LIBEROV
April 25th, 2022 – Tel Aviv and Central Region
Roma Liberov is a famous director of documentary movies about Russian writers. Roma shared why he recently moved to Israel and how much his life has changed since February 24, 2022.
We then watched the film "Written by Sergey Dovlatov" a biography of the famous writer whose writings were not published in Russia until his death. Roma collected all of his texts, and without changing a single word, created the movie script. The film covers his childhood and adolescence, his service in a prison camp, his attempts to make a career in the USSR, his departure to America, relationships with family and his dream only to be published in his motherland. After the film, Roma told of his acquaintance with Sergei’s daughter and wife, and his creative solutions to better convey the story. The participants also discussed how similar our stories are, the country you grew up but can't stay in, and building a new life in a land connected to our spiritual history. And being happy.
Such a fantastic movie. I never heard about this director but now want to see all his works. Thank you Argaman, for having us meet such talented people, and for the trusting and warm atmosphere of these meetings.

MEETING WITH DIRECTOR DMITRIY NIKITIN, AND SCREENING OF "THE SNOW HERE WON'T FALL""
April 11th, 2022 – Tel Aviv and Central Region
Dmitriy Nikitin, a young award-winning documentary movie director, is now on his way to represent Israel at the International Film Festival.
We watched the film “It Doesn't Snow Here”, an autobiographical story of Dmitriy and his Aliyah experience, his relationship with his parents and sister who stayed in Russia, and his dreams and reflections on life here in Israel.
After watching the film, the participants asked Dmitriy many questions (made during Covid quarantine) and how the film festival industry works in Israel, including funding for documentaries.
Most interestingly was how each of the Olim related personally to the story – the challenges and inner strings that the film touched upon in each of them.
It was a really great meeting! Dmitriy is very young, talented and inspiring. Also it was so good to talk out our life experiences with others. I felt that I was not alone, and that we all have a lot in common.
