During this lecture of the Argaman Art Spring course, art guide Alexandra Levina spoke about the history of the emergence and development of the largest annual Art Fair "Fresh Paint" (that was supposed to take place approximately the same dates but was delayed because of the pandemic) , how it changed and grew with the years, about artists and photographers who became known largely due to their participation in this fair.
Together with Alexandra the Argaman participants discussed social projects that are held as a part of the fair, such as the "secret card" and a series of comic books and board games, featuring "superheroes" who are children with disabilities.
Alexandra also gave detailed instructions for those involved in painting or photography on how to properly apply and exhibit in the fair.
“It is amazing how sometimes wonderful things come from difficult situations. I have been going to Tseva Tari for 6 years, including 3 times with Argaman, and only now, when it has been canceled, I finally learned the whole story of this huge event. Therefore, the lecture was an excellent opportunity to take a step back and see the overall impact of the exhibition on contemporary Israeli art. I hope that this year it will nevertheless take place, and Sasha will take our group there”.

Inna Gorstein spoke about Ariel Gardosh and the most important character in his career, Srulik – a collective caricatured image of an Israeli, until the end of the 1980s. Through the character Srulik, Ariel Kadosh, as a journalist, commented on various social, political and economic issues in Israeli society. Interestingly, Ariel "raised" Srulik in parallel with the state of Israel. We talked about freedom of the press at that time and about the possibility of expressing our independent opinions through Srulik. This lecture took place on Jerusalem Reunification Day, an event which Ariel Kadosh also related too! Therefore, we paid special attention to Srulik cartoons dedicated to these important 6 days in the history of Israel in 1967.
At the end of the lecture Inna discussed with the Argaman participants how the figure of Srulik affects the works of modern Israeli cartoonists.
“Thank you for telling us about this character – I saw him many times in various advertisements, but I did not know who he was or how significant he was. It turns out that the history of Israel can be studied through the cartoons of Ariel Gardosh! Thank you for such interesting and unique lectures, and s to Inna for the well-prepared and detailed presentation”.

This time we spoke about different channels and delegitimation campaigns. Pavel Bernstein told us how this media war is conducted and about possibilities for change in Arab-Israeli relations. We also discussed the biggest fake news on this topic, and saw lots of caricatures made by both sides of the conflict.
In my opinion, it is crucial to know how the international press sees us. It is essential to see how it may influence our foreign affairs and how we can change this situation. It was great to hear different points of view. Thank you, Shishi Shabbat, for another great lecture!
