YARKON PARK EVENING TOUR

Dmitry Esterkin, our experienced guide, led this evening tour through the biggest park of Tel Aviv. He shared great stories about the past, present and future plans for the park, and during many stops along the way, told us about famous people who lived near the park.
The participants enjoyed the pleasent, friendly atmosphere, and our special break to get to know one another, drink coffee and eat sweets.

I was really happy to join this evening tour. I have never been in Park Yarkon at night so this was a great experience! Thank you!

ARGAMAN PROJECT

DOCUMENTARY FILMS IN ISRAEL
March 30th, 2022 – Tel Aviv and Central Region

Israeli guide, Jewish educator and script writer Asya Fix began this evening with a discussion of how documentary films differ from feature films. She described the history of cinema in Israel, the first Zionist directors, and the development of cinema based on historical context and public sentiment. We learned that in Israel the first "real" documentary film was "Diary" by David Perlov, which encouraged other Israeli documentaries. We discussed the topics of Israeli documentaries and those chosen for the international film arena. We ended our meeting with a conversation about whether documentary films are objective or do they reflect directors' deeply subjective view of historical events.

It was a really interesting and comprehensive lecture – I learned a lot and enjoyed every moment of the discussion.

NEW SEMESTER: “DOCUMENTARY SPRING”
March 24th, 2022 – Tel Aviv and Central Region

We started with a tour of the Museum of the Jewish People (ANU), talking about Jewish self-identity, what it means to be a Jew today, who is a Jew, the place of Jews in world culture and history. After the tour, we watched the film “Viktor Shenderovich, Notes of a Cosmopolitan” about a famous Jewish journalist from Russia Viktor Shenderovich who read his autobiographical stories aloud. His memories touch upon the history of the Jews of the USSR and the search for their Jewish roots. After watching the film, director Tanya Kiselevski told us the story of her Aliya back in the 1990’s and the story of creating the film.

It was my first time at ANU and hope to come back. Thank you for this tour and moving, nostalgic movie.

MALENKY THEATRE PERFORMANCE: “CONTAINER”
March 3th, 2022 – Tel Aviv and Central Region

Mikhail Teplitsky created the documentary “Dor v”Hetzi” by recording interviews with more than 50 olim, whom their parents brought them here as children. "They were like suitcases," says Mikhail, "no one asked them if they wanted to come here or not." Most of them today are successful Israelis who served in the army and are an integral part of Israeli society. But what hides in their memories? Were their stories of aliyah joyful? Funny? Or sad and traumatic? The whole performance seems like one long breath. And along with the characters you laugh, you cry, you remember. After the performance, we also shared memories of our first days in Israel and discussed how this performance is relevant to the new Olim arriving today.

We came from Haifa, after a lot of our friends told us about the Argaman Project and the unique topics that are chosen for each meeting and series. We really liked the performance and discussions, and we hope to join this project more often.

KABBALAT SHABBAT IN HAIFA

Together with Adar Yahad community founders Rabbi Daniel and Rabbi Yigal, we organized a young professionals' traditional Kabbalat Shabbat.

Our guests felt comfortable to ask the rabbis their questions and meet new people from our community. We did our best to make this event atmosphere comfortable for everyone, whether religious or secular.

We shared the last news during the kosher meal and got to know each other even better. The evening ended with our favorite board games and exciting life stories.

I'm so happy that I had a chance to attend this Kabalat Shabbat! It was fantastic to meet many interesting people in one place and spend the evening in such a pleasant atmosphere.
It was fun and family-like. Big thanks to the hosts for this event!

PURIM CELEBRATION

Because of the war, this month was not easy for all of us, but we found a way to bring a little light and joy to those around us. This event celebrated Purim with music, magic tricks, crafts, learning the customs of the holiday, and a competition with prizes for the most attractive and original costumes!

Thank you so much for the event, I had a lot of fun!

GOOD VS EVIL AND OTHER ACTUAL PURIM STORIES

Because of the current world situation, we wanted to organize something very uncommon and special for Purim. Actually, the Purim story itself can tell us a lot not only about the past, but about our present and future. So we asked our special guest Leonid Rozengauz to tell us about the holiday, its roots and relevance for us. Our Asya Fix also shared special Purim traditions, so that everybody could understand how the holiday is celebrated! When we finished the official part and discussion, we played guitar and sang songs.

I felt sad this Purim and did not want to celebrate as I usually do, so this kind of "party" met my expectations fully. I was surrounded by friends, the atmosphere was great and I really enjoyed the evening.

PURIM: PATH TO VICTORY

This time our game was entirely dedicated to Purim. Rabbi Daniel shared what path had been taken to the long-awaited victory, and Alexei Demchenko prepared exciting riddles. This evening was full of excellent communication, new acquaintances, delicious treats, and a good atmosphere! We learned about the history and tradition of the holiday, answered game questions, and, of course, won prizes!

Thank you very much for a lovely evening. I learned more about the holiday history and even won second place in the Quiz game!

FRIDAY-SHABBAT RETREAT #84 - MITZPEH RAMON

I participated in this Shishi Shabbat adventure just a few days before Purim –one of the most fun Jewish holidays, where we are commanded to rejoice, from the beginning of the month! At the same time, we can’t ignore our current reality when, the third week of war which makes it almost impossible to rejoice. But we did it! We left the city for two whole days, to hike in the Negev and spend Shabbat in wonderful Mitzpe Ramon. We disconnected from our nightmarish reality and immersed ourselves in the atmosphere of Purim - with Raphael and Lidia’s help, we searched for secret meanings behind the familiar letters of Esther's scroll and reenacted the episodes very cleverly on Friday night! Everything repeats itself - here we have Haman again on the stage, filled with malice, and here we have the Jewish (and not only!) people who suffer from oppression. But the past teaches that everyone who once wanted to destroy the Jews, disappeared into history. Time passes, but we must continue to remember the actions of tyrants and dictator, so that history does not repeat itself! Therefore, we talked a lot about history, and, of course, we had lots of fun, sang, made new friends, explored and just had a great time! It seems to me that the amount of laughter, warmth and joy that we had on Shabbat should be enough for us for the entire month of Adar. And maybe for the next month too!

EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE. PLAYBACK THEATER - WHEN STORIES COME TO LIFE

Playback theater is a form of improvisational theater where the audience tells their stories and comes to life on stage. It allows the storyteller to take a fresh look at his life story and discover new facets and colors.

"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" enabled the participants to share personal experiences – many connected to the current war – and immerse themselves in acting, emotions, and feelings.

It was a fantastic evening with Playback Theatre. It was my first time in a theater of this format, and I really benefited from this performance. Thank you! I will come again for sure!

NATIONAL INSURANCE INSTITUTE IN ISRAEL

Family economy and mortgage consultant Veronika Maksimov-Rozet met with us at the beginning of March in Beersheva. We spoke about the National Insurance Institute in Israel - Bituach Leumi, Israel citizens' rights and obligations. She shared with us lots of valuable tips and answered our personal questions.

Thanks to Veronica and Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli for sharing such important info. It's not easy to figure out how the system works in Israel. It has become more apparent what Bituah Leumi is, where to address my questions and my rights and obligations as a citizen.

TABLE GAMES EVENINGS

Table games evenings are an excellent opportunity to make new friends, get away from work and problems, and have fun!

New olim who recently arrived in Israel and those living here for a long time come to play the games, hear about our other Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli community activities, meet new friends and even celebrate birthdays together!

We try to get together like this every month in Bat Yam, Haifa, and Beersheva!

My wife and I are new olim in Haifa. We are just settling in,, and it was a great find to learn about the organization Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli and this event, which we enjoyed so much. It was good to meet new people and have such a warm, fun evening!
