Thanks to Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli and to Mila for such a wonderful carving workshop! I’ve gotten a lot of interesting information about Tu B’Shvat and have learned many new things, as how to decorate the holiday table and how to make a bouquet of fruits and vegetables that I can do by myself now.

We invited Arkady Mayofis, the founder of independent television studio Tomsk TV2 to meet with our Olim. Tomsk TV2 was one of the first non-state television companies in Russia and for twenty five years - one of the best. This was indicated by its high and its regular successes in winning the TEFI Prize.
Arkady shared his story about his conflicts with the Russian authorities and media, the cancellation of his license, the cessation of broadcasting, and finally, his Aliyah. In Israel, Arkady opened a new page in his life, created from scratch created the food brand Yoffi - unique delicious gifts from Israel. Four years later, in 2019, The Jerusalem Post included him in the list of 70 Russian-speaking Jews who changed Israel. Very inspiring!

Thank you to the organizers for this fabulous two day enriching and interesting break from routine!! This is not my first seminar and so I can say they get better and better. On Friday we visited the Ptil Techelet Factory where we learned and witnessed ancient ritual dying techniques that have been rediscovered in our time by 4 Olim (1 from Russia, 3 from U.S.) and then toured the Good Samaritan Mosaics museum. We spent Shabbat overlooking the Dead Sea in beautiful Kibbutz Almog. Lena organized the best role-playing game – 1920 about the Jewish characters, mafias, heroes and villains of one hundred years ago. I liked Vlad’s about 10 commandments and the media war on Israel, and Raphael’s talk about famous Jews – Chagall, Leonard Cohen Franz Kafka and more. There was great music and spirit and I loved the atmosphere, as always.

The Mayor of Bat Yam, Mr. Zvika Brot, opened this festive event and spoke about his great belief in the active, young adults of Bat Yam and his willingness to support such programs as Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli. The event included a competitive Kahoot Quiz about Tu B’Shvat, an interesting talk about the traditions of this Land of Israel holiday, and a concert by the popular Israeli group - Ice Hokku.
So wonderful that now Shishi Shabbat has come to Bat Yam. You are doing a great job!

As part of our monthly community project with mentally-challenged adults, our volunteers made and decorated the Jewish traditional good luck symbols - “Hamsa.” The atmosphere was very friendly and our people attend these master classes with joy.

Our Guide Zeev took us on a wonderful tour of modern Israeli art, that mostly all is rooted in the social and cultural history of the country, in Judaism and Jewish traditions. Paintings that said nothing to me before Ze’ev’s explanations became so alive and meaningful!

In central Tel Aviv there is a small, inconspicuous two-floor house, which you can easily walk past on Ben Gurion Boulevard and not notice. This house holds the history of one of the main builders of Israel, David Ben-Gurion.

January 27, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, is dedicated to the memory of six million Jews who died during the Second World War. In our Absorption Center, Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli and the municipality organized a special evening where I was honored to read Kaddish and light 6 candles. After that, we heard an interesting lecture on the history, causes and modern understanding of the Holocaust. This lecture ended with quotes from Anne Frank's diary as a symbol of the resilience of the Jewish people in difficult times. #W e remember.
