We were so impressed with our acquaintance with Linda, and it was nice to hear her and practice new songs. We learned many new things about traditions and about Israel. There was a wonderful friendly atmosphere, and what a new, great experience preparing challah!. I want to express all of our gratitude for the new knowledge and emotions.

We love the atmosphere of these volunteer projects with the mentally challenged. It lets us be creative, meet new friends, and help one another. This time we created underwater Eilat scenes. Art Therapy and volunteering is very cool. A big thank you to the organizers!

We had an excellent tour of one of the most famous science institutions in Israel, the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, by our guide Yuri Soloviev, a connoisseur of the institute. For most of our olim participants it was their first time there. Over four hours, we learned the history of the institute and its departments, the architecture of the unique buildings, the monuments, and the house of the first president of Israel, Haim Weizman, where he lived until his death. We also examined the first Israeli computer, special feathered inhabitants of this area, and unique trees, specially planted from around the world. Finally, everyone took a picture with the famous tree from the book "Lukomorye and the Cat Scientist".

THANK YOU to all of you who contributed to the 8th year of our moving and memorable Light Up! volunteer project on Chanuka!!
Over 140 Olim volunteers visited the apartments of our dear isolated WWII Survivors and Veterans, lit Chanukiot, brought nourishing and festive gift packages and created beautiful, musical celebrations in several Veteran clubs during Chanuka week. The elderly shared their stories and cups of hot tea with the volunteers and created magical, light-filled for all the participants, young and old. Here is a short musical clip from one of the Light-Up projects in Jerusalem:

On December 31, some of the participants in our Israeli literature course with Ben Gurion University had a meeting with Ruvik Danilovich, the Mayor of Beersheva! We discussed the importance of Israeli literature, how interesting it to read and learn the history and traditions of our people, which helps us integrate into multifaceted Israeli culture.

We held two Kosher Quiz evenings and one Board Games evenings in Haifa and Tel Aviv during the cold winter months.
Intellectual games are a great opportunity to prove yourself, meet new friends, and acquire a positive mood for the week, and the Kosher Quiz events of Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli are especially popular today.
Teams of 3-5 people tested their knowledge in many areas including science, the history of synagogues, Jewish holidays, and popular Israeli and Russian films and artists. The three best teams won sweet prizes.

Introductory lecture with Zeev Volk
Zeev Wolf gave an introductory lecture on the culture of Tel Aviv, noting the most important events and artists, from 1938 to 1970. We discussed the impact of various political and social events on the culture of that time (like the “Seventh column of Alternan” - how the decisions of the British Mandate and the clashes between the Israeli and Arab sectors were reflected in poetry and prose of that time), the development of Tel Avivs fashion as a result of the clash between Tel Aviv community and the kibbutzim, how the status of Tel Aviv changed after the proclamation of Independence, and the subcultural phenomena of various national communities who came to the city.
"I really like that this semester is a continuation of the previous one. With each new meeting I understand the story of Tel Aviv in the context of the history of all Israel".

Scams and sects are known to every religion, and Sabbatai Zvi - a Sephardic ordained rabbi and kabbalist during the time of the Ottoman Empire -claimed to be the long-awaited Jewish Messiah. He founded the Sabbatean movement, and subsequently the Dönmeh crypto-Jews.During his life, European Jewry was in a feverish anticipation of the end of the world. After his death, a “witch hunt” began in the European Jewish community, which ended with the complete exclusion of Hasidism from the Vilna Gaon community.
Our special lecturer, Eugene Trayberman, has studied the history of Sabbatai Zvi's life to the smallest detail and answered a lot of questions about this charismatic historical figure.

What a joyful evening! About 200 Russian-speaking olim in their 20’s and 30’s from throughout Israel converged on rainy, chilly Jerusalem for a very warm Chanuka celebration. The theme was 90’s music, dress, and decorations and festive lights everywhere in honor of the Holiday of Lights.
A special invited elderly guest - who was featured in a video sharing his dream to celebrate Chanuka with friends instead of alone – lit our giant Chanukiah, another participant shared beautiful words about what we can learn from candles, and the participants enjoyed different stations including neon face paint, dreidels and games, competed for prizes and danced the night away to live music. Thank you to our partners Masa and the Jerusalem Municipality, and to the many volunteers who made this Chanuka event so beautiful.

There was a great festive atmosphere and a full hall despite the weather! Many new people have come. Yigal gave a short lecture on Hanukkah before we divided into teams for the Quiz. We lit Chanuka candles, treated everyone to donuts, learned some new things about this holiday, and had a wonderful time!
