CONVERSATION ULPAN REUNION & MINGLING

This time we decided to organize a reunion outside meeting for our Conversational Ulpan alumni.

In an informal atmosphere, we met in the bar and shared our recent news in Hebrew and Israeli life insights. It was a very friendly and cheerful meeting.

Thank you for bringing us all together; this was very much lacking! Such a great idea, let's meet again!

BUS TOUR. THE HISTORY OF THE BEERSHEBA VALLEY FROM ABRAHAM TO BEN GURION

In this eventful journey, we got acquainted with the history of the development of human civilization in the area of the Beer Sheva Valley from ancient times to the formation of the State of Israel. We visited Tel Arad and excavated the most ancient city in Israel and the ancient Israeli fortress located next to it. During the excavations, scientists' expanded their ideas about the religion of Ancient Israel.

Afterwards we walked in the Yatir forest - the largest artificially planted forest in our country. We visited the ruins of an ancient synagogue of the Byzantine period, examined the ancient Tel Beer Sheva, and got acquainted with the work of famous Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan at the monument of the "Negev" brigade.

I have been living in Israel for ten years, mostly spending my time between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. But I only visited the area of Beersheva a few times. This tour allowed us to get a closer look at the southern capital of Israel, with its history in Tel Arad and its nature in the lush Yatir forest. Thanks for showing me these places!

SECRETS OF THE JUDEAN DESERT - PARK NEOT KDUMIM AND WINERY TOUR

We started our tour in Neot Kedumim - a park that replicates ancient agricultural methods and species. Our guide, Sergei Polyachok, explained how they worked – did beer or wine production come first? What were the most popular agricultural products in those days and what do we continue to enjoy today? After that we went to the Moni Winery, an Arab-Christian family that produces. We visited the wine cellar in its natural cave, and enjoyed every moment of that Friday hike.

I am really fond of the Judean Desert- it's one of my favourite areas of Israel. It was a great day thanks to Shishi Shabbat Yisraeli and the guide Sergei. I made new friends and had so much fun - Please do more Friday tours like this:)

PLAYBACK THEATER PERFORMANCE KALEIDOSCOPE - HAIFA

Playback is an alternative improvisation theater form where the audience tells their stories and they come to life on stage. It allows the narrator to take a fresh look at his story and discover some new facets and colors. We listened to interesting stories from fellow new Olim, and the actors played out these stories in real-time.

It was an unusual concept of theatre. In my opinion, the theater is a prepared production. But here, the actors created performances from stories of spectators from the audience, and it turned out to be very interesting and moving!

IN THE FOOTHILLS OF JERUSALEM – BUS TOUR OF PROPHETS AND HEROES

Every nation has its own heroes, and the Jewish people are no exception. Stories about Samson, David and others from Tanach were passed down from generation to generation of the Jewish people. Our guide Dima Esterkin took our Tel Aviv and Gush Dan group on a tour of Prophets and heroes of Jerusalem, beginning in the Beit Shemesh area, where many of the famous stories of strongman Samson and King David took place, also according to archeologists. We visited the excavated remaining parts of the settlements, looked around the fortress walls, and walked along the streets of the city of the times of David. We also visited the assumed gravesite of Samson and Dima immersed us in the atmosphere of those years.

“It was such an interesting excursion that I'm not sorry I woke up so early on a Friday! I’ve visited sites in Israel before this excursion, but didnt know that these are such famous places from the Tanach."

ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS: WHAT THE LAW SAYS AND HOW WE RESPOND

We met with Julie Kayt, City Council member, anti-violence activist, and Chair of the Forum for the Advancement of the Negev. We talked about an important issue in our society: what reasons lead to abuse in relationships, what the legislation says, about the existence of shelters, abd assistance in difficult situations. We learned how people can be helped in Israel in such a situation, and the warning signs, based on examples from real life and everyday occurrences in the Negev.

Thanks to Julie for bringing up such an important public topic. It was an essential meeting which answered many questions, especially how to avoid abuse and help people in challenging life situations!
