Our guide and art critic Natalie Nesher Aman began our tour on the first floor of Reuven Ruben house, with a discussion of the agenda and vision of different artists in the Holy Land in the beginning of the 20th century. We talked about Ruben’s sign language and how to “translate” it, his private life and how he met his young wife, and how Ruben loved Jaffa city and Eretz Yisraeli. We climbed to the second floor and discussed why Reuven Ruben became the most expensive israeli artist, why he was only partially involved in israeli society and his feelings on the formation of the State of Israel.
I never was at the Reuven Ruben House-Museum before. It was really an incredible journey through his life and influence on other Israeli artists. Natalie is amazing story-teller - thank you, project Argaman for this visit.

COVID-19 ART: CONVERSATION WITH EXPERTS AND ARTISTS
May 26th, 2021 - Tel Aviv and Central Region
Art critic and educator Maria Malah began with a lecture about modern Israeli art and its reaction to the COVID crisis, restrictions and lockdowns- first in the form of caricatures and mems and then in artists’ spaces around them - the apartments, the views from the window, what they could find 100 meters from their home. Maria also told us about the many new projects online for artists seeking new art forms. After Maria’s lecture, artist Maria Dobrovolskiy told about her COVID-year project on Instagram @post_korona. She takes photos of discarded masks, which are lying on the ground everywhere in the world, and makes funny pictures of them – to remind us to recycle and unite different people around the globe. Natalie Nesher Aman spoke about the Israeli art market and how COVID influenced it. She said that the biggest art-auctions like Sotheby’s and Christie’s moved some of their projects online and increased the exposure of Israeli artists. Max Epstein showed us his art works that he made during this year and shared the inner processes that influenced them and how his animation studio for kids taught them to work with zoom. We ended the meeting with the kids’ animations from Mark’s studio.
t was very intense and informative. I’m full of emotion right now. Max Epstein is an incredible artist, and Maria Malah created some order about art in my head. Thank you Argaman for helping us meet such interesting people.

We organized our first excursion ever to Bnei Brak with guide, Maxim Izikson, who showed us the multifaceted life of this city in 3 hours. The participants discovered the vast religious world of this densely populated city, including the main synagogues, which have a long history, the most famous yeshiva in Israel and other key buildings. We discussed how residents of Bnei Brak cope with living in a world of temptations and non-kosher Internet, the Yiddish many residents speak, popular foods and music, and how they find their soulmates! Max also addressed the complex relationship between ultra- Orthodox Jews and the State of Israel, from the country’s founding to the present day. We finished this fascinating tour with the owner of a religious headwear store, who described in detail the symbolic basis of different religious wardrobe items.

To summarize our amazing seminar experience in the North: I really enjoyed the first day of our trip to the ancient synagogue on Mt. Arbel and our fantastic water trek in the beautiful Madrasa river!! I also loved the musical Kabbalat Shabbat, interesting lectures on Mysticism with Alex, on current events and community-building in Israel with Ariel Bulstein, and the great introduction games where I met the best people.
I personally love when seminar participants prepare content and hope to do that too one day. The atmosphere in Peki'in was great and shows how Jews and Druze live peacefully together – so wish others would learn to live with us like them. Thank you so much for this seminar and see you soon!

We enjoyed an evening of board games in a warm and cozy bar with fantastic company. We played new and familiar games in the atmospheric Rodeo bar.
I am happy to return to our meetings and games – they were so lacking in my life this past year!

Sergey Polyachouk began his lecture with an historical overview of the Crusader times, in the Holy land and in Europe. Then he gave us detailed information about knightly orders that appeared in Jerusalem) so that we could understand their way of life more clearly. And after that we moved to their special diet. We discussed why monks carried their own dishes and didn't use forks. We learned why we drink water with lemon and aloe nowadays in our country and how nuts, humus and falafel became favorite fare of the Crusaders, thanks to the locals. And we finished with the plant that changed all of European culture - sugarcane.
What an interesting topic to discuss here in Israel, where food is the national sport!!! I've learned many interesting things today that I really did not know. Thank you so much for this lecture. I will definitely share my new knowledge with my friends!

Lecturer Yevgeny Treyberman told the webinar participants about the head of the sages of the Land of Israel, who laid the foundations of the Jerusalem Talmud - Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai. According to the Talmud, the future greatness of Rabbi Yochanan was predicted even before his birth. He was one of the Tannaim, an important Jewish sage in the era of the Second Temple, and a primary contributor to the core text of Rabbinical Judaism, the Mishnah. His name is often preceded by the honorific title, "Rabban". He is widely regarded as one of the most important Jewish figures of his time and his escape from the Roman destruction of Jerusalem, that allowed him to continue teaching, may have been instrumental in rabbinic Judaism surviving the destruction. His tomb is located in Tiberias, within the Maimonides burial compound. Our lecturer Yevgeny shared his story in the most captivating way for over 2 hours!

We organized a Jerusalem city tour with great tour guide to Israel Pavel Bernshtein. He walked us through the fabulous Ha-Nevi'im Street, which in the XIX century was one of the central locations of Jerusalem celebrities, like poetess Rachel, Avraham & Anna Ticho, HaRav Kook, and Eliezer Ben Yehuda. We learned about their lives and tried to imagine ourselves walking through Jerusalem one hundred years ago and sense the atmosphere of that time in our historic Capitol city.

Mount Sinai is one of the most famous places in Jewish history, where the Jewish people received the Torah. Nowadays, there are about 20 opinions where the Mount Sinai is physically located.
Before the Shavuot holiday, we discussed this topic with well-known tour guide and educator, David Wainshtein. Many people believe that this mountain is not located in the Sinai Peninsula and offer other intriguing options. We tried to consider all the pros and cons of each version.
Also, David revealed how the Sinai Peninsula is connected to the first alphabet that appeared from ancient Egyptian script, from images that turned into letters and developed into Phoenician and ancient Hebrew. Thanks so much for sharing such exciting material!
